Nancy Prince was a pioneering African American abolitionist and author. She was born into slavery in 1799 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. After gaining her freedom, she became active in the abolitionist movement and traveled extensively in the United States and Canada, speaking out against slavery and promoting education for African Americans. She also worked with Underground Railroad networks to help enslaved people escape to freedom. In 1831, Prince published her autobiography, The Narrative of Nancy Prince, which chronicled her life as a slave and subsequent activism. She is recognized as one of the earliest female African American authors. Nancy Prince died in 1856.
